The clients’ goal for the project was to create a unique, functional indoor-outdoor experience; vast enough to dine, entertain, relax, and enjoy their tree-lined landscape. By adding three additions to the structure’s footprint, Place architecture:design improved the quality of living for the clients’ large family and friends. The design aesthetic included an inviting over-sized screen porch, an adjacent outdoor terrace, and a covered porch over the mudroom door; all allows for outdoor usage, most of the year, and attractive outdoors views.
A painted blue Tongue and Groove Ceiling adds detail to the room…some swear that light blue-colors* extend daylight at dusk and repel insects. Considerable attention was paid to the storm-water management at the rear yard, as it slopes toward the new work. Underground drainage pipes were added, in conjunction with a swale, to direct the water around the terrace.
